Western Mines Group Receives Assays with Intersections Over 1% Ni

Western Mines Group Ltd (ASX: WMG) has received geochemical assay results for three reverse circulation (RC) drill holes at the Mulga Tank Ni-Cu-Co-PGE Project, on the Minigwal Greenstone Belt, Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields.

Assay results have been received for three holes MTRC015 to MTRC017 which all highlight broad intersections of nickel sulphide mineralization. MTRC015 and MTRC016 in particular show the best results to date from the RC programme with MTRC015 returning multiple intersections over 1% Ni and MTRC016 returning a 200m interval at 0.30% Ni, including 35m at 0.45% Ni with 13m at 0.53% Ni.

With half of the 22 RC holes now received, the results continue to confirm drilling was successful in targeting shallow mineralization with cumulatively around ~50% of the samples from all of the holes showing mineralization – with elevated Ni and S, in combination with highly anomalous Cu and PGE.

Commenting on the RC assay results, managing director, Dr Caedmon Marriott, said, “Assay results have now been received for half of the 22 RC holes and our ‘hit rate’ continues with all of them showing broad zones of nickel sulphide mineralization. This latest batch returned the best results to date with MTRC015 containing multiple intersections over 1% Ni, MTRC016 containing 200m at 0.3% Ni, with 35m at ~0.5% Ni and neighbouring hole MTRC017 also returning some intervals of ~0.5% Ni at similar depths.”

This uppermost zone appears to be laterally extensive and the company believed the results to date bode well for the remainder of the programme.

Highlights include:

  • MTRC015 Cumulative 129m at 0.34% Ni, 156ppm Co, 163ppm Cu, 25ppb Pt+Pd with S:Ni 1.3
  • MTRC016 200m at 0.30% Ni, 139ppm Co, 92ppm Cu, 25ppb Pt+Pd from 103m S:Ni 1.2
  • MTRC017 Cumulative 183m at 0.26% Ni, 132ppm Co, 165ppm Cu, 16ppb Pt+Pd with S:Ni 1.6

Additionally, Hole MTRC015 included multiple intersections with results greater than 1% Ni:

  • 8m at 1.20% Ni, 565ppm Co, 82ppm Cu, 57ppb Pt+Pd from 58m
  • 44m at 0.28% Ni, 131ppm Co, 100ppm Cu, 15ppb Pt+Pd from 95m
  •  inc. 6m at 0.43% Ni, 212ppm Co, 455ppm Cu, 82ppb Pt+Pd from 96m
  • 85m at 0.37% Ni, 169ppm Co, 195ppm Cu, 29ppb Pt+Pd from 158m
  •  inc. 3m at 0.79% Ni, 326ppm Co, 0.19% Cu, 46ppb Pt+Pd from 170m
  • that inc. 1m at 1.11% Ni, 379ppm Co, 0.45% Cu, 62ppb Pt+Pd from 172m
  •  and inc. 7m at 0.80% Ni, 312ppm Co, 501ppm Cu, 17ppb Pt+Pd from 183m
  •  that inc. 3m at 1.32% Ni, 516ppm Co, 0.10% Cu, 34ppb Pt+Pd from 184m
  •  and inc. 3m at 1.35% Ni, 668ppm Co, 750ppm Cu, 0.4g/t Pt+Pd from 228m
  •  that inc. 2m at 1.71% Ni, 836ppm Co, 0.10% Cu, 0.4g/t Pt+Pd from 229m

The company intends to follow-up with further drilling around holes MTRC009, MTRC015, and MTRC016 in early 2024 with its two pronged exploration strategy.
