Assay TV catches up with Tim Harrison, managing director of Ionic Rare Earths (ASX: IXR), a company looking to become a vertically integrated player across the REE supply chain. The company is focused on advancing its Makuutu Rare Earths Project in Uganda to production and becoming a significant supplier of critical and heavy rare earth metals to support the green energy transition.
Tim informs us that the company has recently completed a series of environmental and social impact assessment hearings with local stakeholders from Uganda, where the project gained significant levels of support. Following this success, Ionic is progressing with its mining lease application which, once received, will be the catalyst for the project to move into development.
Tim also discusses Ionic Rare Earths’ recent acquisition of Seren Technologies, a company specializing in rare earth magnet recycling. Rebranded Ionic Technologies, the company plans to build a demonstration plant in Belfast in the first half of 2023.
