Sarytogan Graphite Limited (ASX:SGA) has released the first batch of assay results from its reserve definition drilling campaign at the flagship Sarytogan Graphite Deposit in Central Kazakhstan, confirming the deposit’s status as one of the highest-grade graphite resources globally.
Key Highlights:
- The drilling program targets the first 25 years of mine life as outlined in the pre-feasibility study (PFS), focusing on the Central Graphite Zone to a depth of 50m
- Assays from 20 diamond drill holes have been received, with results from 17 additional holes pending
- All holes intersected high-grade graphite mineralisation, including standout intercepts such as:
- 49.1m @ 30.8% TGC from 1.0m in hole StM-02
- Including 15.4m @ 35.6% TGC and 9.6m @ 41.3% TGC
Sean Gregory, Managing Director of Sarytogan Graphite commented, “These thick, high-grade intersections reinforce the exceptional quality of the Sarytogan ore body. The results will underpin a Mineral Resource and Ore Reserve upgrade as part of the Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS).”
The DFS remains on track for mid-2026 completion, supported by early-stage works including water and infill drilling, metallurgical testing, and power and transport studies.
Resource and Reserve Context:
- Current Mineral Resource: 229Mt @ 28.9% TGC, with 66Mt of contained graphite
- Probable Ore Reserve (Aug 2024): 8.6Mt @ 30.0% TGC, producing concentrate at 81.4% grade
- Sarytogan has demonstrated capability to produce graphite concentrate at >90% TGC, and ultra-high purity graphite at 99.9992% C via thermal purification
Sarytogan plans to supply:
- Microcrystalline graphite for traditional markets
- Ultra-High Purity Fines (UHPF) for industrial and battery applications
- Spherical Purified Graphite (USPG/CSPG) for lithium-ion batteries
The project is designated a Strategic Project under the EU’s Critical Raw Materials Act, positioning Sarytogan as a key supplier of sustainable graphite for Europe’s energy transition.
