OD6 Metals Ltd (ASX: OD6) has announced a significant advancement in rare earth element processing at its 100%-owned Splinter Rock project in Western Australia. The company has successfully produced high-quality Mixed Rare Earth Carbonate (MREC) and Mixed Rare Earth Hydroxide (MREH) products, marking a pivotal step in its development strategy.
The MREC produced boasts a total rare earth oxide (TREO) grade of 59.9%, with 26.8% comprising magnetic rare earth oxides (MagREO), including neodymium (Nd), praseodymium (Pr), dysprosium (Dy), and terbium (Tb). This composition aligns with industry standards and is suitable for further refining into rare earth oxides or metals.
Complementing this achievement, OD6 has implemented ion exchange technology to enhance its processing flowsheet. This innovation has improved the recovery rates of rare earth elements, particularly the valuable MagREOs, thereby increasing overall efficiency.
In addition, the company has adopted nanofiltration techniques, resulting in an 84.5% reduction in acid consumption during processing. This development not only lowers operational costs but also minimizes environmental impact, positioning OD6 as a forward-thinking player in the rare earth sector.
These advancements underscore OD6 Metals’ commitment to developing sustainable and economically viable rare earth projects, catering to the growing demand driven by the global energy transition.
