Lion Rock Resources Inc. (TSXV: ROAR | FSE: KGB | OTCQB: LRRIF) has reported the first batch of assay results from its maiden Phase 1 drill programme at the Volney Project in South Dakota’s historic Black Hills mining district. The early results confirm significant lithium–tin–tantalum mineralisation across the Giant Volney target area, along with elevated values of several other U.S.‑listed critical minerals.
The company completed approximately 3,600m of diamond drilling across 15 holes along the Volney trend. Assay results from four holes have now been received, with the remaining results — including further lithium and gold analyses — pending.
Initial drilling intersected multiple high‑grade lithium zones near surface. Highlights include:
- VOL25‑004: 25.4m at 0.8% Li₂O, including 14.3m at 1.3% Li₂O
- VOL25‑005: 10.3m at 1.5% Li₂O, including 1.3m at 2.2% Li₂O (hole ended in pegmatite)
- VOL25‑007: 10.6m at 1.6% Li₂O, including 5.7m at 2.3% Li₂O
The drillholes also returned strong tin and tantalum mineralisation associated with muscovite‑rich pegmatites. Intervals included 0.1% Sn with up to 120ppm Ta over 28.3m in hole VOL25‑006, and up to 53ppm Ta in VOL25‑007. Assays additionally returned elevated gallium, rubidium and cesium — consistent with an evolved, fractionated LCT pegmatite system.
Lion Rock Resources noted that all four holes were collared directly into pegmatite, meaning the reported intercepts represent only partial thicknesses. Geological mapping indicates the pegmatite continues west of the drill collars, suggesting broader widths may exist. Hole VOL25‑005 was terminated early after intersecting historic underground workings.
Further north, additional pegmatites were intersected more than 250m from the Giant Volney area near the Rough & Ready target. These units appear mineralogically similar to those drilled to date, and assays are pending. Multiple surface pegmatite outcrops containing lithium have also been identified across the property and remain untested.
The Volney Project now hosts seven critical minerals recognised on the current U.S. Critical Minerals List: lithium, tin, tantalum, gallium, cesium, rubidium and gold.
Dale Ginn, president and CEO of Lion Rock Resources, commented, “These results confirm Giant Volney as a well‑developed, near‑surface LCT pegmatite system enriched in lithium, tin, tantalum, and gallium. The presence of multiple critical metals within a single zoned pegmatite body highlights the broader strategic relevance of Volney as North America continues to prioritise secure domestic supply chains. These results represent only the first batch of assays from our Phase 1 drill program, with additional lithium and gold results pending from multiple target areas along the Volney trend.”
Lion Rock Resources continues to evaluate the broader district‑scale potential of the Volney trend, with further drilling results expected as assays are returned.
