Sarytogan Graphite Limited (ASX: SGA) has secured the water licence for its Sarytogan Graphite Project in Kazakhstan, marking another key approval as the company advances toward development. The licence, granted by the State Committee for Natural Resources and Ecology of the Ministry of Industry and Construction, allows the project to draw up to 2,040m³ per day from the Sherubainura River alluvial aquifer, located roughly 10km from the project area. The allocation covers an initial 27‑year period and exceeds the peak water requirements estimated for the operation.
Sean Gregory, managing director of Sarytogan Graphite, commented, “Reliable access to good‑quality water in the required quantities is critical to the success of every mining project. This approval represents an important de‑risking milestone for Sarytogan. It builds on the grant of the mining licence, the environmental permit for the mine, the lease of land for the downstream project, and the power allocation already secured for the development. Each approval is another step toward de‑risking the project and moving it closer to construction.”
The new licence adds to a growing list of key project approvals already in place, including:
- Environmental permit for the mine
- Mining licence
- Lease of 10ha of land for the downstream processing plant
- Power allocation covering both upstream and downstream operations
Sarytogan is now progressing additional approvals, including permits for the processing plant and tailings storage facility. The Definitive Feasibility Study for the upstream development remains on schedule for completion in mid‑2026.
The company said the growing suite of regulatory approvals provides an increasingly strong foundation for advancing the Sarytogan Graphite Project through feasibility, permitting, and eventual construction.
