International Graphite Limited (ASX: IG6 | FWB: H99) has achieved pilot‑scale purification results exceeding target specifications for the production of high‑quality expandable graphite, marking an important step toward the company’s strategy to develop a European‑based expandable graphite facility.
Purification testwork is being undertaken by ALKEEMIA S.p.A. at its specialist laboratories in Port Marghera, Italy. Initial coarse‑flake concentrate samples (80 mesh) surpassed the targeted 99.5% purity, confirming their suitability as feedstock for high‑quality expandable graphite products. The testwork uses concentrates sourced from multiple operating mines globally, as well as material generated from the company’s Springdale Graphite Project.
International Graphite signed a non‑binding Letter of Intent with ALKEEMIA in December 2025 to provide toll treatment purification services and explore opportunities for further operational integration. Under the arrangement, the company has secured up to 50% of the start‑up capacity at ALKEEMIA’s 200t/y industrial purification plant, with the intention to increase throughput as the facility expands.
ALKEEMIA plans to ramp its purification operations over the coming years, targeting a phased expansion to reach 20,000t/y of capacity by 2030. International Graphite views the collaboration as a key step in establishing a reliable, high‑purity graphite supply chain for European industrial markets.
