International Graphite Ltd. (ASX: IG6) has signed a binding joint venture agreement with Alkeemia to develop a major graphite processing hub at Porto Marghera in Italy, positioning the project as a key component of Europe’s emerging critical minerals supply chain.
The joint venture will be structured with Alkeemia holding 51% and International Graphite 49%, with profits shared equally. The development will leverage Alkeemia’s existing industrial platform, including permitting, infrastructure, logistics and workforce, alongside International Graphite’s graphite processing expertise.

The facility is planned with an initial capacity of 10,000 tonnes per year, expanding to approximately 15,000 tonnes within three years. Construction is targeted to begin in Q3 2026, with first production expected in H2 2027, subject to a final investment decision.
The project benefits from operating within a fully integrated chemical and industrial ecosystem, with access to port and rail infrastructure, which is expected to support a capital‑efficient and low‑operating‑cost processing hub.
International Graphite will fund the initial development phase, while Alkeemia will provide site access, permitting management and operational services. Financing discussions are ongoing, including potential support from EU critical minerals funding programmes and strategic investors.
Andrew Worland, managing director and CEO of International Graphite, commented, “This agreement represents a defining milestone for International Graphite, achieved through strong alignment with Alkeemia and a shared vision to establish a leading graphite processing hub in Europe. The project positions us to play a key role in supporting the continent’s growing demand for critical raw materials.”
Lorenzo Di Donato, CEO of Alkeemia, commented, “This joint venture marks an important step in strengthening Europe’s critical minerals supply chain. Porto Marghera offers unique industrial and logistical advantages, and this development supports the broader objective of building resilient, localised production capabilities.”
The joint venture partners will now focus on finalising engineering, commercial agreements and financing ahead of a final investment decision.
