Century Lithium Corp. (TSXV: LCE | OTCQX: CYDVF) has commended First Phosphate Corp. for successfully producing commercial-grade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) 18650 battery cells using Century’s lithium carbonate, marking a key milestone for North American battery material collaboration.
The batteries were assembled by Ultion Technologies Inc. at a pilot plant near Las Vegas using lithium carbonate from Century Lithium’s Angel Island Demonstration Plant in Nevada. The process also incorporated high-purity phosphoric acid and iron powder supplied by First Phosphate from its Bégin-Lamarche site in Quebec.
Century Lithium CEO Bill Willoughby expressed strong support for the achievement, stating that the successful use of their lithium carbonate highlights both the quality of their material and the strategic importance of the Angel Island project as it moves toward permitting and full-scale development.
The partnership underscores the growing shift toward LFP battery chemistry, prized for its safety, stability, and cost-effectiveness. Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries, LFP formulations do not rely on nickel or cobalt, making them more sustainable and geopolitically secure.
Century Lithium continues to advance its extraction and processing technologies with the goal of contributing to a robust, vertically integrated North American battery supply chain. This latest milestone with First Phosphate represents an important validation of its product and supports the broader push toward localized clean energy solutions.
