Altona Rare Earths (LSE: REE) has confirmed that its upcoming JORC Mineral Resource Estimate for the Monte Muambe project in Mozambique will include gallium alongside fluorspar. Metallurgical testing by SGS Lakefields demonstrated that fluorspar can be recovered by flotation while gallium reports to the tailings, opening a two-step recovery pathway for both commodities.
Drilling has begun on hole MM111, designed to intersect both fluorspar and gallium mineralisation, as part of a 2,000-metre programme supporting the new MRE. In addition, 280 soil samples have been sent to SGS South Africa for fluorine assays, expected to identify further fluorspar targets.
CEO Cédric Simonet said the close geological association between fluorspar and gallium, along with confirmation of separation during processing, justifies reporting gallium in the forthcoming resource estimate, which is targeted for completion by year-end 2025.
