The Role of Mining in COP27 Strategies

Tuesday, 25 January, 10:00am HKT (1:00pm Syd/Mel)
The 2021 COP26 meeting saw countries committing to further accelerating their decarbonization plans and strengthening emissions reduction targets ahead of the timeline set out in the Paris agreement. With the accelerated phaseout of coal power, there will be an increased focus for the mining industry to grow supply of batteries and other metals that make up renewable power as well as other sources of clean energy like uranium and hydrogen.
This session will look at the promises made at COP26 and the role the mining industry will play to help achieve these goals. We will also focus on the role of governments and financial institutions in funding this energy transition – and how the funds must flow upstream to address the critical supply gaps in these key metals.

Confirmed panellists
Joseph Jacobelli, Founder and Managing Partner, Asia Clean Tech Energy Investments Company
Nick Smith, Executive Director, Growth State & Low Carbon Division Department for Energy and Mining, South Australia
Sophie Lu, Principal – Carbon Management, Scope 3, BHP
