Epiroc has commenced the expansion of its rock drilling tool manufacturing facility in Hyderabad, India. The expansion includes building an innovation and technology centre, underscoring Epiroc’s dedication to making India a key manufacturing hub for its regional customers.
“India is a key growth market and an important manufacturing and innovation hub for the Epiroc Group,” says Helena Hedblom, Epiroc’s President and CEO in the company’s press release. “It’s been great to see the growth in the Hyderabad product company in recent years, and this investment shows our trust in India’s future potential.”
The investment covers land expansion, new buildings, and advanced machinery to enhance productivity. Epiroc president and CEO Helena Hedblom expressed confidence in India’s future potential, noting the significant growth of the Hyderabad product company in recent years.
With over 60 years of presence in India, Epiroc operates manufacturing centres in Hyderabad and Nashik, an innovation hub in Bangalore, and has a presence in all major regions. The Hyderabad factory, known for producing rotary bits and down-the-hole tools, will expand further, creating 30 new jobs. The extended production area is expected to be operational by April 2025.
The company’s press release also states that Epiroc’s India president, Arunkumar Govindarajan, emphasized that the expansion aligns with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, which aims to encourage local production, boost domestic manufacturing, and reduce import dependency. Launched in 2014, the initiative focuses on job creation, skill improvement, and enhancing India’s manufacturing infrastructure to position the country as a global manufacturing hub.
Additionally, Epiroc is opening a satellite innovation centre in Hyderabad to support its Bangalore R&D hub. This new centre aims to accelerate product development and leverage the region’s talent pool, according to Chandu Rao, GM of Epiroc’s Indian innovation centre.
“By opening an innovation and technology centre in Hyderabad we are coming closer to the huge talent pool in this key region,” says Chandu Rao, General Manager of Epiroc Innovation & Technology Centre in India. “This will strengthen our efforts to support customers with the latest innovative products and solutions.”
